I don’t take a lot of street portraits, so accumulating enough for a post takes some time. Here are several recent ones, all shot on film.
This is Mateo, who commented on my camera, and we talked photography for a few minutes. I placed him in front of this plain background. I found him a couple of weeks later and gave him a print.
I talked with Alicia Taylor Low of Down to Earth Mosaics, https://downtoearthmosaics.com, at a Montclair Art Walk, and asked if I could take her picture next to her mosaics. Also sent her the file afterwards.
This is Louis, who struck up a conversation with me when he saw me taking photos. He had a unique look, so naturally I asked to take his picture.
Here’s a missed opportunity and a learning experience in film photography. I had the wrong ISO set on my camera, so this shot was way underexposed. I managed to rescue it somewhat, but the quality isn’t great. Too bad, he was a good subject.
This isn’t street portraiture, but it’s a unique representation of a person. This is the R-Evolution stature from Burning Man that will be on the Embarcadero for several months. I took the photo early in the morning when the sky was gray, which made a good background.
I make mistakes often with film, but the fun of making darkroom prints compensates for that. And I do make fewer mistakes as I get more practice.
