Cinco de Mayo isn’t a major holiday in Mexico, and turns out it wasn’t in San Francisco, either. I went to the “celebration” there, but it was really more of a small street fair with the usual vendors of cell phone services, chiropractic care, Scientology and the like. So I left and ended up walking around the Mission, which is grimy but has lots of photo possibilities.

This was on Valencia. It’s always rewarding when you catch the subject in just the right stepping pose.

She was working at a DARE booth and was friendly. I asked her to pose for me a second. Gotta like the red and blue theme, especially the red lipstick.

Couldn’t resist the lucha libre masks.

This was street photography on Mission street.

So even though the Cinco de Mayo celebration was a disappointment, there’s still always something worth photographing in the city.
